Springer Spaniel - Beloved Friends and Companions

English Springer Spaniel is extremely smart and learn very quickly. The Springer Spaniel is an ideal dog for country or city life. Springers are people pleasers. They love to be around people, and they are energetic, loving companions. Many owner find humor in their energetic and playful animals that bring a smile to their faces. With proper training the can excel in agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are the perfect choice for families because they are so wonderful with children. Adult supervision of children around any breed of dog is necessary to ensure the dog doesn’t become irritated.
The Springer brand of dogs are generally friendly and always looking to make their owners happy. There are people who use the sweet temperament of a Golden Retriever to describe the Springer’s personality. They are happy to just be with their family even if that means just lying around the house. They are very flexible and acclimate easily to various activity levels, as long as they are allowed to be with people as much as possible. Being a long breeder of a variety of puppies, we can attest to their absolute friendliness.
Normally weighing between 35-55 pounds at adulthood this is the English Springer Spaniel breed which is medium in size. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. Springers which are field bred have shorter hair and are generally more active than the show type Springers. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two “lifestyles.” The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.
A purebred English Springer Spaniel has a coat color of either liver and white or black and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. These are easily recognised by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.
English Springer Spaniels were bred to be natural hunters with a lot of energy, so you can expect your Springer to enjoy running around, sniffing out “game,”and retrieving things for you. Springers are happy to spend all day outside with their masters, they love water and are not particularly sensitive to weather in general. Because they are an old breed, they have been a favorite canine for many years. They are one of the oldest and best established hunting and gun dog breed.
I hope this explains why springers are a wonderful fit for a variety of situations, lifestyles and families. We certainly believe and have experienced how these loving animals can find a place in anyone’s heart and home.
